Concrete Work for a Town Built Mostly Since 2000

Most calls we get for concrete contractors in Sahuarita come from homes that did not exist 25 years ago. The town incorporated in 1994. It had 3,242 residents at the 2000 census, 25,259 in 2010 and 34,134 in 2020, with 13,426 housing units. That growth came largely through master-planned communities, Rancho Sahuarita, Quail Creek and Madera Highlands among them. Homes here are young, so the work is mostly additions to builder concrete: wider driveways, larger patios, walks to side gates and pads for sheds or RVs.

Pecans, rubber and cotton

Sahuarita's history is farm history. James Kilroy Brown started the Sahuarita Ranch in 1879. In 1915 Bernard Baruch, Joseph Kennedy and J.P. Morgan founded the Continental Farm to grow guayule for rubber, and the land later went to cotton. In 1948 R. Keith Walden moved Farmers Investment Co. to Arizona and bought the Continental Farm lands, and in 1965 he switched to pecans. The FICO orchard now covers over 6,000 acres with 106,000 trees. Neighborhoods built on or beside old farm ground can have softer, worked soil near the surface, which we compact or remove before placing a base.

Higher and a little cooler than Tucson

Sahuarita sits at about 2,703 feet, roughly 15 miles south of Tucson, with the Santa Cruz River running through town and Madera Canyon just to the southeast. The elevation does not change the basics: summer pours still need to start early, and monsoon storms still drop a lot of water in a short time. We pitch every slab away from the house and plan where runoff leaves the property, especially on lots that back up to washes or open desert.

Working with Sahuarita's HOAs

Nearly every neighborhood here has an association with architectural rules, and they often cover driveway widening, stamped colors and RV parking. We are happy to work within them. Send us your HOA guidelines and we will lay out the job so you can get approval before we schedule. For any work that reaches the street, the Town of Sahuarita's Public Works Department handles right-of-way permits; its checklist asks for an Arizona Registrar of Contractors license number and a town business license number, so we take care of that paperwork.

Typical Sahuarita projects

  • Driveway extensions for a third car or a trailer
  • Back patios that extend the builder slab under or past the patio cover
  • Stamped and colored concrete for courtyards and entries
  • Walks to the side gate, trash bins and garden
  • Pads for sheds, golf carts in Quail Creek, and pool equipment
  • Repairs to settled panels near downspouts and garage entries

Sahuarita Lake, completed in Rancho Sahuarita on June 22, 2001, and the Titan Missile Museum, built in 1963, are local landmarks most of our customers can see from their neighborhood. Call (520) 619-2611 to set up a visit.

Sahuarita Questions

Can I widen my driveway in Rancho Sahuarita?

Usually yes, with HOA approval. We give you a layout to submit, then pour the extension and tie it to the existing slab so the two move together cleanly.

Do I need a town permit for concrete work in Sahuarita?

Work in the street right-of-way goes through the Public Works Department's right-of-way permit. Work on your own lot usually needs HOA approval more than a town permit, and we check both before we schedule.

Is the soil different near the pecan orchards?

Old farm ground can be softer near the surface. We check the ground on the estimate and compact or replace it before placing base.
